Action Blueprints
Action Height
String action height directly affects playability and tone. Lower action provides easier fretting but may cause buzzing, while higher action offers more volume and sustain but requires more finger pressure.
Standard Range: 1.5mm - 2.5mm | Measurement Point: 12th Fret
String Gauge
String gauge influences tension, tone, and playability. Heavier strings produce more volume and sustain but require more finger strength. Lighter strings are easier to play but may lack projection.
Light: 0.009-0.042 | Medium: 0.010-0.046 | Heavy: 0.011-0.052
Tension Balance
Each string's tension must be balanced against the others to create uniform response across all registers. This balance ensures consistent playability and prevents individual strings from feeling too tight or too loose.
Total tension affects neck relief and overall instrument geometry. We calculate optimal tension ranges based on instrument construction, scale length, and playing requirements.
Neck Relief
Proper neck relief accommodates string vibration while maintaining consistent action height. Too much relief causes high action in the middle frets, while too little can cause buzzing.
Intonation
Correct intonation ensures that notes play in tune across the entire fretboard. This requires precise saddle adjustment and may need to be recalibrated when string gauge or action height changes.
Custom Configuration
Every musician has unique preferences and requirements. Our custom setup process considers your playing style, technique, and performance needs to create an instrument configuration that works for you.
We document all adjustments and provide you with a detailed setup report. This information helps maintain consistency and makes it easier to replicate the setup if needed.
